Electricity Connect 2025 Supports the Indonesian Government in Achieving Energy Independence and Accelerating National Economic Growth
Jakarta, 19 November 2025 – Electricity Connect 2025, a major agenda that brings together all key stakeholders in the electricity sector, officially opened on 19 November 2025 at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC). The conference and exhibition, initiated by the Indonesia Electrical Power Society (Masyarakat Ketenagalistrikan Indonesia/MKI) and fully supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and PT PLN (Persero), aims to strengthen collaboration and sustainable investment in Indonesia’s green energy transition.
Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jisman P. Hutajulu, emphasized the government’s deep concern regarding global warming. In response, the government remains committed to transitioning from fossil-based energy to renewable energy (EBT).
This agenda aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to achieving national energy independence by maximizing the potential of domestic renewable energy resources.
“What we must pay attention to is the energy trilemma. First is security—we must provide sufficient electricity for all levels of society. Second, electricity must be affordable. And third, sustainability. Therefore, we must continue to integrate renewable energy into our national system,” Jisman explained during the opening ceremony of Electricity Connect 2025.
President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, stated that PLN, as the bearer of the national electricity mandate, has prepared Indonesia’s energy transition roadmap through the 2025–2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL). In what is recognized as the greenest RUPTL in history, the government and PLN have set a target for renewable energy to dominate future power plant development—amounting to 69.5 GW, or approximately 76% of total additional generation capacity.
He further elaborated that to accommodate incoming renewable energy into the national grid, the RUPTL outlines the construction of 48,000 circuit kilometers (kms) of transmission lines and 109,000 MVA of substations, with an estimated total investment reaching IDR 3,000 trillion.
“With this energy transition, we will be able to provide valuable clean energy while reducing the basic cost of electricity. Throughout this process, we are shifting from imported fossil fuel–based energy to domestic renewable energy, thereby strengthening national energy resilience,” he said.
Chief of the Presidential Staff, Muhammad Qodari, highlighted that the Presidential Staff Office places strong emphasis on national energy independence. The office is committed to ensuring that energy transition programs included in the President’s Asta Cita are implemented effectively, measurably, and in line with strategic policy coordination in the energy sector.
“We understand that Indonesia's energy resources are dispersed across remote islands. This is the nation’s strength, even though several energy-producing regions still do not receive optimal electricity access. This situation is being improved rapidly through the RUPTL,” he noted.
Qodari also underlined the massive economic potential in the planned expansion of renewable energy generation. With a total investment value of IDR 3,000 trillion over the next 10 years, this agenda is expected to contribute up to 1% annually to national economic growth.
“The government, the Ministry of ESDM, and PLN are committed to ensuring inclusive energy independence. The goal is for all regions to have reliable, clean, and affordable electricity. And once again, energy is vital—achieving 8% economic growth is impossible without strong electricity infrastructure,” Qodari added.
To support these efforts, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Electricity Connect 2025 and Secretary General of MKI, Arsyadany G. Akmalaputri, stated that Electricity Connect 2025 opens vast opportunities for policymakers and industry players to build partnerships and investments that strengthen the renewable energy ecosystem in Asia, particularly Indonesia.
Electricity Connect 2025 features a broad range of activities including plenary sessions, panel discussions, thematic discussions, high-level dialogues, a knowledge hub, workshops, memorandum of understanding signings, supplier gatherings, and one-on-one meetings. Arsyadany added that the exhibition includes 94 exhibitors from the electricity industry showcasing the latest technological innovations in their fields.
“We are optimistic that this year's Electricity Connect will run successfully and unlock more avenues for collaboration and innovation among policymakers and industry leaders. As with previous years, Electricity Connect 2025 is a Net Zero Emission event, where all carbon footprints generated are offset through Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Certificates,” Arsyadany concluded.
