MKI Bolsters Leadership at Transtech ASEAN 2026: Driving Grid Modernization and Energy Inclusivity

JAKARTA, April 23, 2026 – The Indonesian Electrical Power Society (MKI) took center stage in shaping the regional energy landscape at the prestigious Transtech ASEAN 2026 Conference & Exhibition. Through a series of strategic sessions over three days, MKI emphasized that grid modernization and policy synchronization are the primary keys for Indonesia to achieve its Net Zero Emission targets by strengthening transmission infrastructure.

The event, held at ICE BSD, commenced with Opening Remarks from Mrs. Chairani Rachmatullah, Vice Chairperson 1 of MKI. In her address, she highlighted Indonesia's unique geographical challenges as an archipelagic nation requiring robust power grid interconnection.

"Transmission is more than just cables connecting two points; it is the lifeblood of the energy transition. Without a reliable and integrated transmission system, our vast renewable energy potential will remain isolated at its source, unable to reach demand centers," Chairani asserted.

Grid Readiness for Renewable Integration On the second day, the discussion shifted toward technical and regulatory aspects, presented by Mr. Zainal Arifin, Head of Division IV for Policy & Regulatory Studies at MKI. In a session titled "Readiness of Grids for Renewable Energy Integration," Zainal provided a deep-dive analysis into power system stability when facing the intermittency of solar and wind energy.

Zainal emphasized that the massive integration of New and Renewable Energy (NRE) requires regulatory adjustments that support system flexibility. "We need a regulatory framework that enables the adoption of Smart Grid technologies and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure grid frequency and voltage remain stable as the proportion of NRE increases in the national energy mix," he explained.

Inclusivity and the Digital Future The human element and industrial inclusivity were spotlighted on the third day. During the Women in Energy forum, Mrs. Chairani Rachmatullah returned to share insights on the vital importance of gender diversity in strategic decision-making within a traditionally male-dominated energy sector. Chairani noted that diverse perspectives foster more resilient innovation and community-oriented solutions.

MKI’s series of intellectual contributions officially concluded with a Special Valedictory Address by Mr. Andri Doni, Vice Chairperson 4 of MKI. Presenting the vision "Towards Sustainable, Digital and Flexible Grids," he provided a roadmap for the evolution of networks from conventional models to adaptive digital systems.

"Grid digitalization is an absolute prerequisite for sustainability. With a flexible, data-driven network, we are not just transmitting electricity; we are managing information in real-time for maximum efficiency and the reduction of power losses," Andri Doni stated before international delegates.

This comprehensive participation reinforces MKI's position as a thought leader bridging government vision, industrial needs, and global technological standards. Through Transtech ASEAN 2026, MKI reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that Indonesia's electrical power sector grows not only in quantity but also in quality and sustainability.

About the Indonesian Electrical Power Society (MKI)

The Indonesian Electrical Power Society (MKI) was established in 1998, inspired by the spirit of Law No. 15/1985 on Electricity, by stakeholders of the Indonesian electric power industry as a forum for communication, coordination, and consultation for the national power sector.

MKI is a non-profit organization whose activities include formulating opinions and ideas to develop and expand the electric power industry in Indonesia, both nationally and internationally. Moving toward industrial independence, MKI operates under the motto: "Brighter, Stronger, Affordable, and Widespread." MKI's membership comprises stakeholders across the entire electricity value chain, from upstream to downstream.
