MKI Launches White Paper Toward NZE 2060 and Elects New Chairman at 10th National Congress

Jakarta, 14 February 2026 – MKI officially launched its White Paper as a national strategic compass for achieving the Net Zero Emissions (NZE) 2060 target. The launch of this crucial document took place alongside the organization’s 10th National Congress (Munas X), held at the Head Office of PT PLN (Persero).

The MKI White Paper was prepared to address major challenges facing the national electricity industry, particularly the ambitious target of adding 100 gigawatts (GW) of generation capacity, with 75 percent coming from renewable energy sources.

MKI Expert Council Coordinator, Bambang Praptono, emphasized that this transition requires heightened vigilance toward potential transmission network bottlenecks and primary energy availability.

“MKI stresses that electricity projects must be executed on time, on budget, and on quality to avoid the risk of short-term power crises,” Bambang stated firmly.

In his presentation, Bambang further explained that the MKI White Paper sharply analyzes potential electricity supply constraints due to infrastructure bottlenecks and challenges in primary energy supply such as gas and coal. Therefore, the MKI Expert Council recommends that future project execution must follow the principles of “on schedule, on budget, on quality,” supported by a strong task force team. The acceleration of renewable power plant development integrated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), smart grid modernization, and super grid development is also essential.

Key recommendations in the White Paper include:

  • Acceleration of renewable energy development integrated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

  • Infrastructure modernization through smart grids and the development of a national super grid.

  • Creation of 4.4 million green jobs by 2030, presenting major opportunities for vocational and engineering graduates.

  • Investment requirements of USD 235 billion by 2040, requiring regulatory harmonization and an independent regulatory body to ensure legal certainty.

During the Munas X proceedings, the organization’s highest forum officially appointed Suroso Isnandar as Chairman of MKI for the 2026–2029 term, succeeding Evy Haryadi. Suroso, currently serving as Director of Project Management and Renewable Energy at PLN, is widely recognized as a strong advocate for intelligent power system development.

“The electricity sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation. MKI must unite perspectives and build broad consensus for the national interest. Electricity must be developed for the public good, with community participation as part of the solution,” Suroso said in his inaugural speech.

Chairman of the Munas X Organizing Committee, Erie Heryadi, emphasized that the meeting was not merely a routine five-year agenda but a consolidation momentum to strengthen the national energy mix and system reliability. Echoing this, Evy Haryadi highlighted the importance of MKI’s role as a cross-stakeholder collaboration platform—from government to industry players.

With new leadership and guidance from the White Paper, MKI is committed to strengthening its position as a strategic partner of the government. The goal is clear: to ensure Indonesia’s energy transition runs smoothly, maintain reliable electricity supply (without blackouts), keep costs affordable, and remain environmentally sustainable.
