MKI Presents Strategic Recommendations in RDPU on the Draft Amendment to the Electricity Law with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives
Jakarta, July 21, 2025 — The Indonesian Electricity Society (Masyarakat Ketenagalistrikan Indonesia – MKI) accepted the invitation from Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to attend a Public Hearing (RDPU) on the Draft Law concerning the Amendment to Law Number 30 of 2009 on Electricity.
This meeting served as an important forum for MKI, as a platform for electricity sector stakeholders, to present views, inputs, and concrete proposals on the direction of national electricity regulation development. In its presentation, MKI emphasized the importance of creating adaptive regulations that respond to the dynamics of the energy transition, address national energy security challenges, and ensure legal certainty and a conducive investment climate in the electricity sector.
As a form of tangible contribution, MKI submitted the White Paper on Electricity and the MKI Expert Council Report to Commission XII of DPR RI. These documents contain in-depth analyses, mapping of strategic issues, and policy recommendations based on data and technical studies prepared by electricity sector experts and practitioners. The documents are intended to serve as references in the ongoing discussion and refinement of the Electricity Bill, particularly to support the development of renewable energy, the equitable distribution of electricity infrastructure, and the strengthening of governance and institutions.
The RDPU was marked by active dialogue between MKI and representatives from various political parties within DPR RI. Several party factions expressed their appreciation for MKI’s contributions and provided constructive feedback on the proposals presented. This open and substantial discussion reflects a spirit of collaboration between legislators and professionals to create inclusive, forward-looking regulations that prioritize national interests.
MKI hopes that the legislative process for the Electricity Bill will continue to involve active participation from all stakeholders, with the goal of establishing a reliable, sustainable, and equitable electricity system for all Indonesians.
