ABOUT ELECTRICITY CONNECT 2024
BRIEF HISTORY
BRIEF HISTORY OF INDONESIA NATIONAL ELECTRICITY DAY
The history of electrical power in Indonesia has ebbed and flowed in tandem with the tide of the people’s struggle. October 27th, 1945, subsequently became known as Electricity and Gas Day, and was commemorated for the first time on October 27th, 1946, in Gedung Badan Pekerja Komite Nasional (“BPKNP”), Yogyakarta.
Electricity for public consumption has started its history in Indonesia when a private Dutch company, NV. NIGN, which was originally involved in the gas sector, decided to expand its activities into the generation of electricity for public consumption. In Government returned the electricity company ownership to the original owners. BRIEF HISTORY OF INDONESIA NATIONAL ELECTRICITY DAY 1927, the Dutch government established Waterkraft Bedrijven (“LWB”) to manage hydro-electric plants in West Java, East Java, Bengkulu and North Sulawesi, along with a steam-generated power plant in Jakarta. It was then followed by several municipalities who also set up their own municipal power companies.

Nusantara Power Connect (NP Connect) is the largest exhibition and conference event in Indonesia which has been organized by PLN Nusantara Power since 2016. The rebranding of NP Connect (previously known as PJB Connect) aligns with the change of name of PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali into PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP).
In addition to the name change, the transformation is reinforced by strengthening PLN NP’s position through the establishment of a Strategic Office in Jakarta, to enhance its business expansion. Hence, the Capital city of Jakarta has been chosen as the host city of NP Connect 2023.
NP Connect will serve as the platform to gather enhanced business opportunities and knowledge for stakeholders within the electricity industry on a global scale to address challenges in the industry.
BRIEF HISTORY OF PLN LOCOMOTION
Based on the directives from the President of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the Proudly Made in Indonesia Affirmative Action, President Jokowi has instructed state-owned enterprises (BUMN) to trigger economic growth by using domestic products. During the Affirmative Action for Increasing the Purchase and Utilization of Domestic Products as part of the National Proudly Made in Indonesia Movement held last May, President Jokowi reiterated that all agencies must purchase local products to boost the economy, particularly for local entrepreneurs and MSMEs.
President Jokowi reaffirmed this directive during his address to all Ministers, Heads of Agencies, Regional Heads, BUMN Leaders, Regional Military Commanders, Regional Police Chiefs, and Attorneys General at JCC Senayan last September, urging all agencies to foster and support MSMEs by purchasing from them. In line with this directive, PLN continues to commit to increasing the Domestic Component Level (TKDN). As of August, the realization has reached 45.85%, with domestic expenditure amounting to IDR 9.43 trillion out of a total expenditure of IDR 20.58 trillion. This achievement has already exceeded this year’s target of 42%.
However, PLN is not complacent, as the goal is not just to meet the target but to exceed it. Therefore, PLN is initiating the TKDN Exhibition to enhance synergy and collaboration for increasing the Domestic Component Level in the electricity sector. The TKDN Exhibition is an event that connects local business players with their target markets through exhibitions, discussions, and cooperation (MoU signings), aiming to promote the ecosystem of local products and build synergy between agencies, producers, and local MSMEs.
